2AMS Pre-Integration
- Pre-integration activities in the CERN AMS
Cleanroom have been going very well. There have
been occasional technical issues, but each has
been quickly resolved. - The Rotation Assembly Stand (RAS) and scaffolding
work well and allow very good access for
operations - Procedures have been followed with few
modifications and occasional re-ordering of
steps. - ACC, TAS, Tracker installations have been
smooth and quicker than expected. - The pre-integration activity will definitely make
the final flight integration quicker with less
technical issues
3AMS Pre-Integration Potential Problems
?
- Be sure to follow Clean Room procedures. If
youre not sure, ask! - Current plans to glue thermal blanket mounting
pins to the LUSS. Removal of anodized surface in
clean room? - Delayed pre-integration of Ram Wake Radiator
Jigs
NOTE During the TIM presentation, Prof. Ting
directed that V. Plyaskine procure another large
screen TV (low resolution) to be mounted in the
Clean Room showing the views on the website from
the video cameras. This is so people know they
are being monitored.

4AMS Pre-Integration Issues
- Schedules, schedules, schedules keep them
updated and sent to John Heilig - Procedures have still been coming in relatively
late compared to when they are to be implemented. - Keep working on those ADPs!
- Several integration action items are many weeks
late and may affect the schedule. See items in
red on revision 21 of the action item list.
5AMS Integration Issues
- Tracker cooling prior to
de-integration - There has been no decision on how much Tracker
cooling is needed nor what method will be used
during pre-integration operations. - This is a Tracker Group decision that MUST be
made and implemented before the TRD/UTOF is
installed (22-Nov). - There is no room to connect cooling ducts to the
light traps/vents as there was on AMS-01 - The TTCS evaporator tubing may be used with
expendable CO2 lots of CO2.
NOTE During the TIM presentation, Prof. Ting
directed that this be discussed in a telecon with
R. Battiston on 29-Oct-07.

17AMS Magnet Field Mapping _at_ CERN
- Prof. Ting officially decided the Magnet will be
shipped to CERN as soon as the flight cryostat is
completed. It will not be commissioned prior to
delivery. Commissioning of the cryostat will
take place in parallel with integration
activities. As much time as possible must be
left for this activity. - Therefore, magnetic field mapping must take place
at CERN and after the Tracker is installed with
the VC pressurized warm. - V. Choutko will attend the meeting at SCL on
16-Nov to discuss the field mapping requirements. - If possible, we need to avoid mapping with the
LUSS in place. It will save weeks of work to
de-integrate the LTOF and RICH Reflector cables
from the LUSS. - If possible, we must also try to map with Tracker
Planes 1 5 in place this will allow cabling
to continue and also further protects the silicon
ladders.

19Weekly Integration Telecons
- Integration telecons are held every Tuesday at 8
AM Houston / 2 PM Culham / 3 PM CERN using
toll-free meet-me numbers. We cover - Action items
- Schedules
