Located on the Via Calzaiuoli in Florence, Orsanmichele (or "Kitchen Garden of St. Michael", from the contraction in Tuscan dialect of the Italian word orto) was originally built as a grain market in 1337 by Francesco Talenti, Neri di Fioravante, and Benci di Cione. Between 1380 and 1404 it was converted into a church used as the chapel of Florence's powerful craft and trade guilds. On the ground floor of the square building are the 13th century arches that originally formed the loggia of the grain market.

SLIDESHOW - Collection of artworks by Gustav Feith, Mary Delany, Edmund Blair Leighton, Emile Auguste Pinchart, Eloise Harriet Stannard, Le Pho, Pino Daeni, Olga Marciano, Stefano Puleo, Yves Ganne, Victor Frimu, Victor Muller and other painters. Poppy flowers have held a longstanding presence in the realm of art, symbolizing various meanings across cultures and time periods. Their delicate petals and vibrant hues often evoke themes of beauty, passion, and remembrance in artistic representations. The striking contrast between the vivid poppies and their green stems gives artists a powerful visual element to capture emotion and provoke contemplation in their viewers. In addition to their aesthetic appeal, poppies are laden with symbolic significance that transcends mere visual representation, carrying deep cultural and historical connotations that enrich the tapestry of artistic expression.

Collection of artworks in shades of blue by Dee Nickerson, Dod Procter, Michael de Bono, Rosie Lippett, Tim Gustard and Wendy Mould The assigning of symbolic meanings to colors is probably as old as symbolism itself. “In fact, words are well adapted for description and the arousing of emotion, but for many kinds of precise thought other symbols are much better”. (John B. S. Haldane)
In her early life Olga Marciano (Italian, 1962) was a lawyer, university assistant, writer, and later an entrepreneur, and was born with an explosive passion for art. She bravely decides to break all the rules of a common logic and abandons her work to work with art at 360 degrees. An artist of international scope, he lives and works in Salerno. President of SALERNO IN ARTE. A long career with many experiences abroad and in Italy and participation in biennials such as that of Florence, Genoa and Venice. Her works was on display at the Italian pavilion of the Art Expo in New York in 2018. Her paintings – they say – … have a soul, they possess and transmit to anyone who observes them, the breath of those who conceived them, allowing even the “non-experts” to instinctively perceive strong and deep sensations. The colors are striking, vivid and sharp, even in the nuances;

The Museum's Christmas tree and Neapolitan Baroque Crèche are among The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s most cherished treasures, the installation each year heralding the beginning of the Christmas season. Now a new tree enhanced with fiber-optic lighting allows the magnificent scene to be viewed in all its glory. The base of the majestic tree displays a landscape in which eighteenth- century crèche figures reenact the story of the Nativity. Sumptuously dressed, exotic travelers who have come to pay homage to the Babe include the three kings with their retainers and animals, a grand lady riding an elephant, and another seated on a camel. Loretta Hines Howard gave her collection of Neapolitan Baroque Crèche figures and angels to the Museum in 1964. For many years she installed the crèche and angels personally, work that has since been carried out by her daughter, Linn Howard, who is now aided by her own daughter.

Van Gogh’s paintings of Sunflowers are among his most famous. He did them in Arles, in the south of France, in 1888 and 1889. Vincent painted a total of five large canvases with sunflowers in a vase, with three shades of yellow ‘and nothing else’. In this way, he demonstrated that it was possible to create an image with numerous variations of a single colour, without any loss of eloquence. The sunflower paintings had a special significance for Van Gogh: they communicated ‘gratitude’, he wrote. He hung the first two in the room of his friend, the painter Paul Gauguin, who came to live with him for a while in the Yellow House. Gauguin was impressed by the sunflowers, which he thought were ‘completely Vincent’. Van Gogh had already painted a new version during his friend’s stay and Gauguin later asked for one as a gift, which Vincent was reluctant to give him. He later produced two loose copies, however, one of which is now in the Van Gogh Museum
Set in the beautiful mountainous northwest corner of Tuscany, the medieval city of Barga is situated on a spur overlooking the mid-Serchio River Valley. Barga, in its heyday, was a stronghold of The Medici's Florence. Against the often fiercely independent republic of Lucca, and the Dukes of Este, or ubiquitous Visconti, it was known as Barga Fiorentina. This is still evident in its culture, language, art and architecture, and the proud Barghigiani continue to think of them as a cut above. Barga is nevertheless on the edge of the wilds of the Garfagnana, "land of wolves and outlaws" otherwise known for vast chestnut forests, wild boar, delicious pecorino cheeses and porcini mushrooms.
Passeggiata is Italian for ‘gentle stroll’. This activity perfectly sums up the Italian way of life and is mostly done once the sun goes down and the warm dusky summer evening arrives. The best place to do this is either in the central town square or along the beach. The Italians take this activity very seriously and often you will see entire families taking a passeggiata before or after dinner. For a small additional cost it is also popular to incorporate an aperitif or a gelato
