2The Centers Mission
- The mission of the Benecki Center for Real
Estate Studies is to act as a focal point for
research, education, and service activities
relating to the field of real estate. The Center
was established in 1985 to provide a
comprehensive real estate resource, serving as a
vehicle for interaction between faculty,
students, alumni, professional organizations, and
others with an interest in real estate. Center
activities are designed to build external
relationships through encouragement of
interaction between University faculty, students,
and real estate professionals. - The main focus of the Real Estate Club is to
provide members with information about the
various career paths within the field of Real
Estate. With this in mind, we provide club
members with opportunities through many genres of
communication.
3Dog Island
- In 2007, Stanley Benecki, a 1981 graduate of the
Kelley School, donated five undeveloped lots on
Dog Island , Florida to Indiana University. - This donation
- Has provided a real life learning experience in
real estate development for MBA students - Has created an opportunity for both undergraduate
and graduate students to visit the island and
experience firsthand the issues facing a
developer - Will provide the Benecki Center with an endowment
upon eventual sale of the property - A webpage has been created to help market the

- Support of IU Real Estate Club Events,

- Provide informational resources and scholarships
for students interested in real estate as a major

networking, internship, and job opportunities for
students

7IU Real Estate Career Fair
- The first annual real estate career fair took
place in the Kelley School in February 2007. We

8Collegiate Real Estate Conference
- The 4th Annual CREC took place in April at
DePaul University in Chicago - Students from IU and eight other Midwest
universities - Students attend panel discussions on topics of
real estate industry network with companies - The Center hosted a dinner for students and
alumni at the University Club with speakers Al
Klairmont Ken Marino of the Eisenberg
Foundation, and Steve Good of Sheldon Good Co.

Indianas Institute for Real Estate
Management hosts a luncheon and career fair each
January
- Students have the opportunity to
- Network with various real estate property
- management organizations and companies
- Learn about the property management business
- Participate in the IREM business luncheon
- Hear a panel of speakers talk about timely topics
- in 2007 the topic was the property tax law
changes

- Each year, the Benecki Center co-sponsors the
Indiana Commercial Board of REALTORS Annual

11Stanley E. Hunt Development Case Series
- The Paul I. Cripe Charitable Foundation has
agreed to donate 75,000 to fund a new
development case series for five years - Stanley Hunt was founder and CEO of The Shorewood
Corporation, a development company, and proponent
of helping young people in their careers Hunt
died in 2001 - Doug McCoy, adjunct professor of real estate,
oversaw creation of first case this summer case
is being taught this fall in two sections of
Appraisals class - This project will provide students with real
world based learning in the area of real estate
development - Case competition held on November 19th winners

- This years site, at the northeast corner of
17th and Walnut, is located in Bloomington to
allow students to walk the site and make use of
speakers from the local area. Winning cases
included a Dunkin Donuts, Bloomingfoods,
apartments, and a Hooters.
