Highlight of Current Activities

• Coordination between standardization and business
  model in Japan
• Commercial IPTV service is widely spreading to
  the public in Japan
• IPTV functionality being installed in TV sets.
• Standardization in TTC
• Consensus-building IPTV operators (telecom
  operators), broadcasters and manufactures
• Upstream activity to ITU-T IPTV-GSI

Strategic Direction

• Goal Provide standardized IPTV service to the
  public all over Japan
• ?
• IPTV services can be received by mass production
  retail TV sets as well as by STB (Set Top Box).
• IPTV functionality being installed into TV sets
• Use common key components of broadcasting
  receiver
• IPTV operators harmonized IPTV specification
  documents with broadcasters and manufactures for
  future expansion of IPTV services.

Challenges

• Harmonization between domestic and global de jure
  standardization (especially, ITU-T IPTV-GSI)
• Network provider and IPTV service operator must
  be separate operators
