Title: YOUNGEVITY introduces Mineral Makeup

1
YOUNGEVITY introducesMineral Makeup
  • Presented by
  • Dr. Melinda Silva

2
Early Cosmetics
  • The earliest known cosmetics came from Egypt
where dyes and paints were routinely used to
color skin and hair rouge on the lips and
cheeks, henna on nails, and eyes and eyebrows
    heavily with kohl.

3
Ancient Makeup
  • Archeological digs have revealed cosmetic tools
and usage of natural earths pure pigment makeup
as far back as approximately 10,000 years ago.
  • Cultural civilizations adorned themselves with
makeup and jewelry in elaborate religious
    ceremonies.

4
Egyptian Kohl Makeup
  • Natural mineral makeup powders were worn by all
Egyptians for the same reason as today's modern
athletes. That is, the wearing of black or dark
kohl under their eyes helped to counteract and
absorb glare from the suns rays.

5
Ancient Eye Makeup
  • Women in the ancient times commonly put color
around their eyes. Besides beautification, its
purpose was also medicinal as covering the
sensitive skin of the lids with colored ointments
prevented dryness and helped to protect against
eye diseases, e.g. the eye-paint repelled the
little flies that transmitted eye irritations.

6
Ancient Roman Makeup
  • Romans also used kohl for darkening eyelashes and
eyelids. The colors used in 'kohl' or eye
cosmetics were minerally based black often being
made from lead sulfate, greens and blues from
copper oxide, and reds from iron oxide.

7
Ancient Roman Cosmetics
  • Another popular practice was the use of chalk for
whitening the complexion. The Romans used pumice
for cleaning their teeth and even developed
hair-removing preparations. It is widely believed
that the Romans are responsible for early
exportation of cosmetics to the Far East where
    they were further refined.

8
Cosmetic Development
  • The universal use of cosmetics grew significantly
with a more scientific study of cosmetic
ingredients, which began in France. Over the
years, the method for cosmetic development has
continued to change veering from the once
all-natural methods used by the Egyptians and
Romans to the addition of synthetics,
preservatives, and additives to prolong the life
of makeup products, as used by our competitors.

9
Youngevity is PURE minerals
  • Youngevity would like to come full circle and
return to the days where makeup was natural and
    without fillers
  • The additives, fillers, chemicals, and colorings
commonly used in many of our competitions
products, have been linked to severe skin
allergies, skin conditions, and even long term
    medical issues.

10
Our Competition
  • Some of the most common ingredients found in most
foundations, blushes, bronzers, and eye shadows
can be damaging and even dangerous. These include
talc and blue No. 1. Blue No. 1 is a carcinogen
(meaning it "can" cause cancer). Additionally,
the inhalation of talc, which is used in a lot of
makeup powders, when used over a long period of
time can cause lung problems similar in nature to
    those caused by asbestos.

11
Cosmetic shelf life?
  • Another problem is the uncertainty about the real
"safe" shelf life of makeup. The cosmetic
industry is not required by law to put an
expiration date on makeup products (although a
few do). Therefore, these products may remain on
the shelf at department stores for months at a
    time some even for years.

12
Cosmetics as skin irritants
  • The FDA allows cosmetic and skin care
manufacturers to incorporate man made materials
that are chemically based, processed into high
end and drugstore brand colored cosmetics and
skin care brands. These products may contain
ingredients that are known to cause skin
irritation, including rosacea, cystic acne, as
well as cancer in some cases.

13
Cosmetics as skin irritants
  • Skin problems can be caused by the use of certain
minerals in makeup and/or man made chemicals and
dyes, such as Talc, and Bismuth (also known as
    Biron).
  • Skin irritations can be caused by a single
ingredient or by a combination of different
    ingredients. Also, individuals may respond
    differently to the same ingredient.
  • The purity of our mineral makeup is unmatched by
    any of our competitors.

15
Rosacea
  • Chronic skin disorder affecting the face
characterized by red papules and flushing
  • Excessive facial warmth and redness is the
    predominant complaint

16
Epidemiology of Rosacea
  • Occurs in 1 in 20 Americans
  • Onset usually between 30 and 50 yrs
  • More common in people of Celtic origin
  • Female to male ratio 31

17
Physical Findings
  • Facial redness and warmth
  • Itching is generally absent
  • Women usually have symptoms on the chin and
cheeks, whereas in men the nose is commonly
    involved
  • Over 20 of patients have eye symptoms, such as
    burning, stinging, tearing, eyelid inflammation
    and swelling

18
Causes of Rosacea
  • Etiology is unknown
  • What worsens the redness? Hot drinks, alcohol
    and sun exposure
  • What flares it up? Reactions to medicines,
stress, extreme hot or cold, spicy drinks
  • Rosacea IS NOT related to poor hygiene

19
Treatment of Rosacea
  • Topical treatment (creams)
  • Antibiotics
  • Laser rx for telangectasias and rhinophyma (aka
    WC Fields nose)

20
Progression of Rosacea
  • Often resistant to initial treatment and it is a
    recurrent, chronic disease
  • Progression is variable but stages are
  • 1. Facial Flushing
  • 2. Swelling on face and/or eye symptoms
  • 3. Lesions on face (papules pustules)
  • 4. Enlargement of nose (rhinophyma)

21
Rosacea Pearls
  • Resistant cases may also be caused by a fungal
    infection
  • Social stigma rosacea associated with alcohol
    abuse
  • May need antibiotics if it affects eyes

22
Before and After
  • Youngevitys mineral makeup contain natural
    anti-inflammatory properties, helping to heal,
calm, and reduce redness in rosacea and acne
    prone skin types.

23
Benefits of Youngevity Makeup
  • Our cosmetics provide color without the waxes,
oils, preservatives and other additives that more
traditional makeup contains. Safe for sensitive
skin and skin recovering from laser resurfacing,
    chemical peels, and plastic surgery
  • Because our mineral makeup does not have any
preservatives, it is much more appropriate for
sensitive and acne-prone skin. (Bismuth, a filler
used in other mineral makeup lines can clog pores
and create or worsen acne lesions)
  • Natural protection from ultraviolet rays. This is
a result of the presence of titanium dioxide.
