  • The Compliance program at VA Ann Arbor Health
    Care System has been in existence for seven
    years. Our mission is to support the
    organization by providing guidance in business
    compliance decisions and to provide leadership
    with the data necessary to make informed
    decisions regarding the business of healthcare.
    We also assist the business operational units,
    including revenue, in performing their duties in
    a compliant and ethical manner.
  • Duties include (among many others)
  • Monitoring and auditing clinical and business
    functions for compliance with regulation and
    accuracy to prevent health care fraud and abuse
    due to improper billing, coding, and care
    documentation.
  • Providing education to employees regarding the
    compliance program.
  • Maintaining open lines of communication
    throughout the organization, enabling employees
    to report compliance issues to the proper
    individuals.
  • Investigating potential compliance exceptions and
    providing possible corrective actions.

  • Internship Opportunity
  • Interns will participate in a 2-year formal
    training and development program designed to
    provide them with important skills and
    competencies to progress to more responsible
    positions.
  • Interns who successfully complete the training
    will be eligible to apply for full-time positions
    in the field or may be placed non-competitively
    in a position. Applicants will be required to
    sign a mobility agreement acknowledging they
    agree to relocate to a different VA medical
    center upon completion of training.

  • Monitoring, maintaining, and supporting
    compliance program activities in a number of
    areas.
  • Providing education to VA employees in the area
    of healthcare compliance.
  • Auditing and Monitoring various programs and
    activities located at the medical center, to
    include healthcare billing, accounts receivable,
    coding, medical documentation, etc..
  • The Veterans Health Administration (VHA)
    Compliance and Business Integrity (CBI) Program
    was implemented in 1999. The mission of the
    Office of Compliance and Business Integrity (CBI)
    is to serve as the principal VHA function
    advising the Office of the Under Secretary for
    Health in all matters relating to compliance and
    organizational integrity in the business arena.
    Toward this end, the CBI Office provides
    reasonable assurance that VHAs business
    operations follow all laws, regulations and
    policies that apply, and promotes standards of
    excellence in business practices.

    higher grade level after 1 year of comparable
    experience at the next lower grade, but not
    beyond the established promotion potential of the
    position.

    interns will be eligible for conversion to a
    competitive Federal appointment.

  • Qualification Requirements
  • APPLICANTS MUST BE U.S. CITIZENS.
  • GS-7Bachelors degree AND superior academic
    achievement (GPA ? 3.0) OR one full year of
    graduate level education.
  • GS-9Masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2
    full years of progressively higher level of
    education leading to such a degree.
  • Eligible for consideration to next grade after
    1st year of Internship
