Dental Readiness Classifications
3Purpose
- To inform commanders and senior NCO's of the Army
Oral Fitness Program, Dental Readiness and
Dental Classifications. - To outline the responsibilities of the DENTAC,
unit commanders unit Senior NCOs/1SGs and
soldiers regarding Dental Readiness.

5DoD DENCOM Goals
- The DOD Goal for Dental Readiness is to have
of all soldiers in Dental Class 1 or 2. - The DENCOM wellness Goal is to have of
all soldiers in Dental Class 1.

6DENTAC Responsibilities
- DENTAC Commander is responsible for providing
examinations, cleanings, and restorative and
specialty dental care for active duty military
personnel assigned to Fort Gordon. - Advise unit commanders in determining appropriate
dental fitness level for unit.

7DENTAC Responsibilities
- Screen soldiers dental records to establish their
dental fitness classification. - Provide monthly updates to unit on changes in
soldiers dental classification and date of last
examination. - Make appointments available to support the
requirement for annual dental examinations.

8DENTAC Responsibilities
- Assist unit commanders to ensure that newly
arrived soldiers do not remain in Class 4 for
over 60 days after arrival or in Class 3 for over
6 months after arrival. Appointments will be
made available on a priority basis for soldiers
in Class 3 or 4.

- The unit commander is responsible for the
oral/dental fitness and readiness of his or her
soldiers. - The unit commander must establishes procedures to
carry out the Oral Health Fitness Program
requirements.

- Appoint an officer or NCO as the Unit Dental
Liaison. - Actively support the Oral Health Fitness Program
by ensuring that - Soldiers are compliant with the program and
available for dental evaluations and care when
required.

- Newly arrived soldiers dental records are
submitted to the supporting dental clinic as part
of the inprocessing procedures. - Provide current unit personnel rosters to
supporting dental facility monthly. - Soldiers identified as Class 3 or 4 are made
available to the dental facility for expedited
treatment. - Procedures are established to manage soldiers who
are in repeated noncompliance.

- Dental Fitness Class 1
- Soldiers who require no dental treatment or
reevaluation within 12 months. - Dental Fitness Class 2
- Soldiers whose existing oral condition has the
potential but is not expected to result in a
dental emergency within 12 months.

- Dental Fitness Class 3
- Soldiers who require dental treatment to correct
a dental condition that is likely to cause a
dental emergency within 12 months. - NOTE class 3 students PCSing OCONUS should
report to clinic on standby whenever they are not
in class to prevent becoming a holdover

- Dental Fitness Class 4
- Indicator of unknown dental status.
- Soldiers who have not had a dental exam or
treatment by a dentist in the last 12 months. - Call to schedule an appt 30 days before exam is
due - Check AKO for exam due date

- Soldiers in Class 3 and Class 4 are
NON-DEPLOYABLE - Only the first General Officer in the soldiers
chain of command may exempt the soldier
