• Memorial of the Battle of Trafalgar (1805)
• British naval battle during the Napoleonic Wars
• Original Name King William the Fourths Square
• Popular site for political demonstrations
• Completed in 1845

• Surrounded by three roads and the National
  Gallery on the other
• Underpasses allow pedestrians to enter the square
  without crossing the street
• In the center is Nelsons Column
• Surrounded by fountains and the four famous
  bronze lions
• Four Plinths on each corner-podiums

• Two statues in front of the National Gallery
• James II and George Washington
• Washington statue is placed on soil imported from
  US because he declared he would never set forth
  on British Soil.
• Many tourists gather because of its political
  symbolism

• Suggested Statue-Nelson Mandela-Civil Rights
  leader in South Africa

• Pigeons
• Used to be many pigeons, but feeding laws were
  created, and now there are few in the square
• Christmas Festival
• Spruce or Fir tree donated by Norway in gratitude
  of Britain's aid during WWII
• South Africa house and the Canada House are
  tributes to those two countries
