  • Two files
  • TOC directions.doc
  • Document for TOC.doc
  • Open merge directions.doc
  • Follow instructions in class
  • Complete project in class

Preparation
  • Prepare document (Document_for_TOC.doc)
  • Decide headings and subheadings
  • Level 1 main topic
  • Level 2, 3, etc. Level 1 sub topics
  • Apply Styles
  • Insert TOC page with title

Apply Heading Styles
  • Select topic text
  • Style box in Format tool bar
  • Drop down menu
  • Choose desired style for selected text

  • Blue Text Heading 1
  • Red Text Heading 2

TOC Page
  • Insert TOC page with title
  • (in Word click Insert, click Break, select
    Page break, click OK)
  • Type Table of Contents as title
  • Add 1 or 2 blank lines
  • Apply Heading 1 style to title
  • Table will be added where cursor is located
