• Proposed in 1845
• The design of the tire was a success, but it
  never became a commercial success.
• More than 40 years later the concept was
  rediscovered by a veterinary surgeon

• Current tires at the time would not dampen road
  faults
• This meant that every dip in the road would jarr
  cyclists
• Dunlop rediscovered the air cushioned tire when
  trying to reduce the vibrations on his sons
  tricycle

• The popularity of Dunlop tires continued to
  increase and they were the first tires used in
  motorcycles.
• Goodyear and Michelin also joined the market with
  Pneumatic tires

Conclusion

• Even though a concept may be a commercial failure
  before, it still has a chance of becoming a
  success.
• Air cushioned tires such as these are still in
  use today.
