What is Rough ER?

• Ribosomes are present.
• Endoplasmic means within the cytoplasm.
• Reticulum means a little net.

• Site of protein synthesis.
• Some proteins are destined to leave the cell.
• Sequence of the protein determines whether the
  ribosome will become associated with the ER or
  remain a cytoplasmic ribosome.
