4The Body Shop Story
In 1976 Anita Roddick opened a very small shop
selling hair and skin care products made in her
kitchen. The products were based on natural
ingredients. Her business grew very fast and she
soon associated it with human rights, animal
welfare and fair trade . Her fair-trade policy
is based on the idea of helping the third world
to help themselves. It embodies importing natural
ingredients and ancient recipes for skin and hair
care products from third world countries. This
has led to the companys famous motto Trade not
aid.
