Course Objectives
Under given conditions, when supplied with two
portable pump kits and a supply of hose and
appliances, the student will

• Select equipment required to maintain a flow of
  water as required by the incident.
• Install pump, hose lays, and holding tanks to
  provide water for use during all phases of the
  incident.
• Perform required field maintenance on a portable
  pump.

• Identify the two common types of pumps.
• Describe the differences between two-stroke and
  four-stroke engines.
• Identify the major parts of two-stroke engines.
• Identify the responsibilities of the pump
  operator.
• Identify the safety and personal protective
  equipment of the portable pump operator.
• Describe the setup and operation of a portable
  pump.
• Identify environmental considerations involved
  with portable pump use.
• Describe the correct troubleshooting procedures
  and field maintenance of a portable pump.

Unit 2 Objectives

• Identify various pieces of pump equipment used
  in the delivery system.
• List and describe the various pieces of equipment
  needed to implement the delivery system.
• Discuss and describe how hydraulics affect pump
  operations under various conditions.
• Solve various problems concerning hydraulics
  under simulated conditions.
• Identify the types of multiple pump
  configurations and their uses.
• Describe and identify the various types of hose
  lays used in initial attack and mopup of fires.
