• Atoms that have the same number of protons and
  electrons but they have a different number of
  neutrons
• Some isotopes are unstable and radioactive but
  some are not.

• What are isotopes?

• By its mass number
• The mass number is the number of protons the
  number of neutrons
• Isotopes are named by adding the mass number to
  the end of the element name. Carbon-14 has 2
  extra neutrons in the nucleus because there are 6
  protons and 8 neutrons. (It normally has 6
  protons and 6 neutrons)

• How can you tell one isotope from another?
