Objective
  • To design and construct a remotely controlled
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), for medium range
    inspection missions.
  • Main Features
  • Airframe of the vehicle will be fabricated using
    composite materials (glass-fibre)
  • Forward-swept wing

3
What is an UAV?
  • An aerial vehicle that does not require a human
operator and can fly independently or be operated
remotely, is either recoverable or expendable,
and is capable of carrying diverse type of
    payload.
  • An Unmanned Aerial System can be divided into
    three
  • elements
  • The vehicle or platform itself
  • Its payload
  • Its Ground Control System or Station

4
Advantages Vs Disadvantages
  • Advantages
  • Ability to work faster, more precisely, and more
    reliably than human operators
  • Can work in environments that are dangerous to
    human life
  • Can stay in the air long time performing a
precise, repetitive raster scan of a region,
    day-after-day, night-after-night in complete
darkness, or, in fog, under computer control
  • Less expensive than its piloted counterpart
  • Disadvantages
  • Are susceptible to the loss of the electronic
    link with the human operator
  • Human controllers have very little information
about how the mission is succeeding or how the
    vehicle is performing.
  • Susceptible to ambiguities or simple programming
errors that cause a failed mission
  • They cannot make decisions.

Methodology
The study and development of this project will
be divided in three main phases Conceptual
design During this stage the problem is
understood and analysed, historical data is
gathered and a comparative analysis
is carried-out, it is estimated the initial
configuration, size, weight, performance and
aerodynamics. Preliminary Design The problem is
analyzed in terms of structures, it is defined
the engine for the required power and the
stability and control of the aircraft is
proposed. Detail Design It is defined the way
to produce the aircraft, the final drawings and
the methods of manufacture, selection of
materials and final production design is
performed. Finally the operational tests are
performed.
