Title: Dream House Project
1Dream House Project
2Dream House ProjectIn this project, students
will build what they see as their dream house.
The first stage of this project will be
submitting a copy of their drawn plans for this
house. Students must retain the original plan to
build from.
3The Plan- For this stage, students will draw out
the house they intend to build. It must be a
scale drawing, with the scale indicated. All I
am looking for on the plan is a basic design, and
the ACTUAL dimensions of each room. The plan is
due on Monday, December 8th, and is 20 of the
grade.
4The House- The house will be a 3-deminsional
scale construction of their dream home. The
requirements are as follows
- The roof must be removable to display the inside
of the house. On a multi-story house, each floor
must also be removable. - Must include windows and doors.
- Must be structurally sound. This means it can be
made out of anything that will survive until the
student presents it to the class. - Must have all necessary rooms. For instance, a
house without a bathroom would represent a slight
problem to its occupants. - Each room must be labeled.
- Must have the following data on Excel
spreadsheet using formulas. - Length and width of each room and the house
itself. - Area of each room and the house itself
(air-conditioned space only). - Measurements of all roof angles on separate
sheet of paper (you will need a protractor). - The scale of the house.
- Cost of house tallied using Excel
- The model must be at least as large as the math
book 8x11 and must fit entirely on the
students desk 18x24.
5The Project will be graded as follows
- Initial Plans 20
- Complexity of design 20
- Complexity of roof 10
- Accurate data sheet created on Excel (you may
need to plan library time for this) 20 - Details (i.e. landscaping, wallpaper,
furnishing, paint, etc.) 20 - Presentation to class 10
- Bonus 10 points 1st place house.
- Bonus 5 points 2nd and 3rd place houses.
- Bonus 5 points Presentation using Multimedia
6Multi Media Presentation
- Bonus 5 points for presentation, made using
multimedia, that will play on Windows Media
Player. Must be submitted via Moodle and must
show all stages of the construction process with
both still photos (including close ups of
highlights) and video. - Do not use PowerPoint. You should already know
how to use it. I want you to learn something new.
7Project due date is Monday, January 12th.
Students will present to the class that week.
8Students may work in pairs for this project.
They may also look to their parents for
suggestions and help if power tools are used, but
make no mistake this is the students project.
