Maternity Services

• The NNUH is a centre of excellence providing a
  modern maternity service to both high and low
  risk mothers and their babies .
• The maternity service is provided collaboratively
  by midwives, obstetricians general
  practitioners.

Some Facts Figures

• 5120 births in 2004.
• 150 home births
• 1196 caesarean sections
• 2 sets of triplets
• 83 sets of twins
• 68 water births
• Patch covered by the NNUH service 1200 square
  miles.
• Average mileage of a community midwife 7000
  miles per year.

Recruitment Retention of Midwives

• We have 134 whole time equivalent (WTE) midwives
  in post , supported by 35(WTE) nursing
  assistants.
• The national shortage of midwives is being felt
  locally and regionally.
