Handling There is nothing to handle at the
inverter, not even switch on/off. All settings
will be send via CAN bus from external monitoring
unit UPC3, default settings inside the inverter
can be changed only with special PC program. For
communication via CAN bus every inverter need its
own CAN address. The inverter read its CAN
address from the slot of the 19rack. So it is
not necessary / possible to set CAN address at
the inverter. The 19 rack will be addressed from
the left (address 1) to the right (address
3/4). Cooling Internal speed controlled
ventilator. Air flow direction horizontal (front

20Modular Inverter UNV/INV (General)
CAN Bus system
CAN bus Convertronic inverter use CAN bus for
communication with static bypass switch or
external monitoring units like UPC3. The inverter
sends information about input and output values
and status. This information will be shown on the
display of static bypass switch or monitoring
unit. The monitoring unit continually sends
settings for output voltage on the CAN bus. These
settings have highest priority and disable
internal default settings of the inverter. To
protect the bus against reflection a terminating
resistor of 120 Ohm is required on both ends of
the bus.
CAN bus addressing For communication via CAN
bus it is necessary that each inverter get its
own CAN address. The same address twice in a
system confuses the bus. Convertronic uses two
different ways for addressing the rectifier.
21Modular Inverter UNV/INV (General)
CAN Bus system
Parallel operation of inverter (static bypass
switch) For parallel operation of inverter (also
inverter and static bypass switch) it is
necessary there is no phase angle between the
outputs. To safe inverter from asynchronous
operation a special synchron bus is required.
Please be sure the synchron bus is wired when
inverter are taken into parallel (also if working
with static bypass switch).
Inverter monitored by monitoring unit UPC3 To
safe inverter from overload during parallel
operation, the monitoring unit UPC3 monitors the
DC input voltage of the system and sends shut off
command if input voltage decrease to low voltage
level. Therefor the UPC3 monitors its input Vdc2!
It is very important, that this input Vdc2 is
wired to systems DC voltage otherwise the UPC3
shut off the inverter all the time.

Technical information Input - Special
versions for nominal input voltage of 24-60VDC
and 108-216VDC. - 1x 230VAC bypass mains - 1x
230VAC inverter output Output - 1x 230VAC, in
phase with bypass input
24 Static Switches Series STS
Function The STS (static transfer switch)
monitors two AC inputs (inverter and bypass). If
bypass input is within nominal values, the STS
synchronises sync bus with bypass mains (inverter
follows sync bus). If inverter input is within
nominal values and sync bus is in phase with
bypass mains the STS switch to priority input
without interruption. If priority input fails,
the STS switches over to second input without
interruption. If DC input decreases to battery
low level, the STS switch off all connected
inverter (at the same time) and switch bypass
mains to load. The STS sends all information
(status, measured values) via CAN bus to external
monitoring unit. Display of - measured
values (DC/AC voltages, output currents,
frequency) - status of connected inverter -
uncoded text for error state (only actual
faults) - time and date
