What is a Dozer?

• A crawler equipped with a substantial metal plate
  (known as a blade), used to push large quantities
  of soil, sand, rubble, etc, during construction
  work.

What is a Dozer?

• James A. Cummings and J. Earl McLeod are credited
  with the first bulldozer designs in 1923.
• Companies such as Fiat-Allis, John Deere,
  International Harvester, Case, Liebherr, Terex
  and JCB produce dozers and earthmoving equipment
  on large scales.

• Numerous regulations are enforced concerning seat
  belts, brakes, access ramps, roadways, training,

  properly train and equip construction workers
  concerning dozers and their uses.
• Different levels are used to develop an array of
  skills.

• Level 1
• For operators with little or no experience
  operating a bulldozer (30 hours).
• Performing walk-around inspections
• Using proper terms and definitions associated
  with the bulldozer
• Using proper safety procedures
• Performing rough ditching and spreading
• Performing ripping operations
• Cutting and building a gentle-slope bench
• Using the bulldozer on unstable soil
• Replacing cutting edges on blades and teeth on
  rippers
• OSHA and industry safety standards

• Level 2
• For national certification of bulldozer operators
  (30 hours).
• Performing excavation in confined space
• Constructing an elevated roadway
• Performing finish work
• Moving large obstructions. Performing bulldozing
  operations on a slope
• Identifying and repairing drainage problems
• Stockpiling materials
• Use of a transit and hand level to create a 31
  slope
• OSHA, MSHA and industry safety standards
