More Intellectual
  • It is said that humans were more physical and

    hearing it once.
  • This would soon come to an end.

Kali-yuga Age of Quarrel
  • All good qualities of life and memory were
    becoming lost.
  • Their life span decreased.
  • Their memory began to fade.
  • Something had to be done to preserve their
    knowledge.

Srila Vyasadeva
  • About 5000 years ago he recorded the presently
    existing Vedic language.
  • They were recorded in four vedas
  • Rig-veda
  • Sama-veda
  • Yajur-veda
  • Artharva-veda
  • He also composed Upanisads, Puranas, and the
    Mahabharata.
  • These were not new findings but rather what they
    knew only put in writing.

5
Four Books of the Vedas
  • Each book is divided into four sections
  • Samhitas contain the mantras and hymns
  • Brahmanas ritualistic teachings
  • Aranyakas meditational section
  • Upanishads mystic and philosophical section,
known as Vedanta, or end of the Vedas

6
Panini
  • Was a successful grammarian who preserved the
    devanagari language.
  • Since this time it has been called Sanskrit or
    joined together, refined.

7
The Original Language
  • Sanskrit is the original language of the Vedas.
  • The Vedic form of Sanskrit is the close
    descendent of Proto-Indo-European, the
reconstructed root of all later Indo-European
    languages.
  • It is regarded as one of the great original
    cultural languages of this planet.

8
Close Relationships
  • The relationship between Sanskrit and modern
European languages and the classical Greek and
Latin are seen in mother and matr or father and
    pitr
  • Also found between Sanskrit and Persian for the
term land, translated in Sanskrit-sthaan and
    Persian-staan
