dispel some myths.

The Management Myth
  • Until recently, most thought management and
    leadership were the same thing.
  • Management focuses on maintaining systems and
    processes.
  • Management can maintain direction, but it cant
    start or change direction.

    leadership.
  • Leadership is about influencing people to follow
    and to change.
  • Organizations need both management and leadership.

  • Sir Francis Bacon said, Knowledge is power.
  • Many people believe that those who possess
    knowledge are leaders.
  • You can visit any university and meet intelligent
    faculty who cannot lead.

  • Are you leading if you are in front of the crowd?
  • Being first or in the front is not leading.
  • To be a leader people have to voluntarily follow
    you.

  • Some think leadership is based on position.
  • Position does not make a leader, the leader makes
    the position.
  • You can lose your position and still lead
    informally.

  • Some think that anyone can be a good leader if
    they work hard enough.
  • More work effort is not the answer. We only have
    a finite amount of energy.
  • It is about working smarter, not harder.
