Some Misunderstand the Role of the Old Testament
  • Hold some O.T. teachings such as tithing
  • Defend instruments of music in worship
  • Defend divorce by O.T. teachings
  • Teach Sabbath day worship
  • Some teach that Saturday is the day of worship
  • Others refer to Sunday as the Christian Sabbath
  • Both ideas are wrong

If Any of the O.T. is Binding, All is!
  • For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet
    offend in one point, he is guilty of all. (James
    210)
  • For whatsoever things were written aforetime were
    written for our learning, that we through
    patience and comfort of the scriptures might have
    hope. (Rom. 154)

Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Exodus
203)
  • But I say, that the things which the Gentiles
    sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to
    God and I would not that ye should have
    fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup

  • Early Christians worshipped on the first day of
    the week. Acts 207
  • This is the Lords day (Rev. 110)
  • This commandment is NOT for Christians!

Honor thy father and thy mother that thy days
may be long... (Exodus 2012)
  • Honour thy father and mother (which is the first
    commandment with promise) That it may be well
    with thee, and thou mayest live long on the
    earth. (Ephesians 62, 3)

  • Thou shalt not kill (Ex. 2013)
  • Thou shalt not commit adultery (Ex. 2014)
  • Thou shalt not steal. (Ex. 2015)
  • Thou shalt not bear false witness (Ex. 2016)
  • Thou shalt not covet (Ex. 2017)

Are all repeated in Romans 139
  • For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou
    shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt
    not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet and
    if there be any other commandment, it is briefly
    comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt
    love thy neighbour as thyself.

  • No!We have a better covenant with God!

Are Christians today under the Ten Commandments?
  • Nine of the Ten Commandments are given again in
    the New Testament.
  • The exception The Sabbath Day was given to a
    particular people for a limited time in the Old
    Covenant.
