- What is a Professional?
- - Macquarie Dictionary, following an
occupation as a means of livelihood or for gain.
3 What is Competence?- Competency knowledge
and skills and
experience.- CPD is an indicator of the
maintenance and enhancement of competency.
CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
4CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPEMNT
- Initial assessment of competence through the
Professional Training Agreement and Professional
Assessment Project. - The PAP demonstrates the attainment of a
prescribed level of competency. - CPD should indicate an advancement of the
competency initially demonstrated value adding.
5CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Surveyors Act 2003 requires on-going assessment
of competence. - HOW?
- Various sources.
- Structured CPD.
- Cadastral Surveyors - critical requisitions
- Mining Surveyors Mine Survey Plan .
6CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- CPD is about knowledge.
- CPD is not about SKILL OR
- EXPERIENCE OR
- - NUMBER of surveys carried out OR
- - RUNNING your practice.
7CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- CPD is about NEW KNOWLEDGE gained.
- CPD is an indicator of knowledge gain.
- CPD activities are INPUTS.
- CPD will not ensure a gain in KNOWLEDGE.

8CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- - Surveyors RESPONSIBILITY to MAINTAIN
COMPETENCY. - - Board may request a surveyor to demonstrate HOW
competency was maintained.
9CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- REGISTERED PERSON IDENTIFIES their CPD/KNOWLEDGE
GAIN REQUIREMENTS. - Board will specify CPD requirements for person to
maintain endorsements in the future. - FOR 2006 RENEWAL CPD MUST BE UNDERTAKEN.
- Alternatives of completing a PAP or
- Submitting a portfolio of 5 completed client
instructions which demonstrate a research
component. - Will NOT be available.
