  • Code of Virginia 24.2-604.H.
  • The program shall be designed to stimulate the
    students interest in elections and registering
    to vote, provide assistance to the Officers of
    Election, and ensure the safe entry and exit of
    elderly and disabled voters from the polling
    place.

Disabled Voters
  • TYPES OF DISABILITIES MAY INCLUDE MOBILITY,
    VISION, HEARING.
  • BE ALERT FOR ARRIVING VOTERS WITH DISABILITIES
  • OFFER TO ASSIST, BUT BACK OFF IF WARNED AWAY BY
    THE INDIVIDUAL.
  • RAMPS, FIRE DOORS, UNEVEN FLOORS AND OTHER
    OBSTACLES.
  • BE ALERT FOR CURBSIDE VOTERS

  • MAY NOT TALK ABOUT ELECTION TO ANYONE WHILE ON
    DUTY
  • NO ACCESS TO ELECTION MATERIALS
  • OBEY CHIEF OFFICER AND STAFF AT ALL TIMES WHILE
    ON DUTY
  • REMEMBER NO CELL PHONES

When you arrive
  • Check in with the Chief Officer of Election.
  • You will be sworn in by an oath specific for
    student pages.
  • You will be given a page shirt, name badge, and a
    Project in Service Learning community service
    form.
  • You may be given the responsibility to use the 1
    CD for Voter Lookup

Examples Of Possible Duties
Call the registrars office
Roll out the red carpet for voters
  • Respond to requests from the chief election
    official.

Assist the disabled

  • Enter the voting area
  • Have access to poll books, ballots, or help
    someone to vote
  • Handle poll books or voting machines
  • Use your cell phone
  • Leave with Voter Lookup CD

Final Thoughts
  • Shift- be on time
  • Food- bring your own
  • Transportation- have own cannot leave before
    shift is over
  • Dress Appropriately
  • Computer and Charger- fully charged have
    followed procedures to get it ready for voter
    look-up
  • Cell phones- NOT in polling place
  • Attitude- positive neutral
  • Make sure that the Voter Lookup CD is given back
    to the Election Chief
