The Holy Week
Every year in Cagliari, during the Holy Week,
there is the celebration of the old cerimony of
the passion and death of Jesus.

The Friday celebration is full of atmosphere

In the city there are three processions organised
by three different confraternities

One, organised by the Holy Crucifix
confraternity, starts from the church of St.
Giacomo and arrives at the church of St.
Lucifero.

The second confraternity is called of the
loneliness and leaves from the church of St.
Giovanni and arrives at the Cathedral.

The last one is called Gonfalone and it walks
along Stampace, one of the historical quarters
of the city.

On Saturday morning in the Cathedral you can see
the cerimony of Su Scravamentu, the deposition
of Jesus from the Cross.

These cerimonies have typical songs whose music
is not written
The members of the confraternities sing with
different voices in the group there are deep
tunes but kids too.

The Virgins statue is dressed in black.

The crucifix leaves the Cathedral before the
sunset, otherwise, according to an old belief,
Jesus will stay in the Cathedral forever.

Of course this has never happened because the
confraternities take it back at the established
moment to be ready for the procession of the
following day.
