1SEMS Parent Pyramid of Intervention
Tier 4
-Implement the same teaching practices that are
used with your student at school -Participate
actively in your students IEP meetings -Maintain
communication with all of your students
teachers -Read and research about your students
disability -Review report cards and progress
reports regularly to stay up to date with your
students work
Tier 3
-Request assistance from the Student Support Team
(SST) and attend the meetings -Inform SST of any
important facts or information related to your
childs academics, behavior or development -Give
permission for school personnel to discover your
students strengths and weaknesses -Implement and
reinforce strategies and plans recommended by the
SST-Consent to have an evaluation completed for
Special Education if it is suggested by the
school and ask questions about the process
Tier 2
-Attend parent meetings -If appropriate,
implement and reinforce specific strategies
suggested by your students teacher, counselor,
and/or administrator -If applicable, give
permission for your student to participate in
extended learning opportunities ( breakfast club
in the lab, ESOL, other interventions ) -Share
your observations of what helps your student to
learn- from previous years, other teachers, home,
etc. -Ask questions when in a parent teacher
conference. Make sure you understand the
interventions that are being provided and the
reasons for each
Tier 1
- -Read with or to your student everyday
- -Visit the library often
- Ask your student about his/her day
- Monitor and help with homework
- Initiate communication with your students
teacher, regardless of performance - Ask for a conference if you notice your student
experiencing difficulties - Praise your student for good work and progress
- Maintain regular communication with your
students teacher - Attend school sponsored events
- Assist your student with preparation for the
school day- attendance, breakfast, adequate
sleep, materials
