Incarnation
  • Incarnation means "having become flesh."
  • Incarnation- the Son of God became man and lived
    among us.

The Good News
  • Jesus spread the Good News to everyone,
    especially poor, hungry, sick, lonely, homeless,
    or treated unfairly.
  • The Good News is for all people all of the time.
  • Jesus is both truly divine and truly human at the
    same time.

Synoptic Gospels
  • Synoptic Gospels- Matthew, Mark, and Luke.
  • - they share many of the same details .
  • -they show Jesus using parables to teach
  • parable- a short story with a message.
  • show Jesus as the one who understands the human
    condition and shows God's love to everyone.

Gospel of Mark
  • The first and shortest of the four Gospels.
  • His audience is most likely Gentile, non-Jewish
    Christians being persecuted for their faith in
    Christ.
  • Mark's message is for them to hold on to their
    faith in Christ
  • Jesus is portrayed as one who suffers with
    humanity and shares God's love with humankind.

  • His audience was for Jewish people who became
    followers of Christ.
  • Empasizes Jesus' humanity by incorporating story
    about his birth and early life.
  • Highlights his Jewish heritage.
  • It is shown that Jesus fulfills the promises that
    God made to his people in the Old Testament.

Gospel of Luke (A.D. 80 A.D. 85)
  • His audience was Greek Gentiles.
  • Also includes details about Jesus' birth and
    early life.
  • Emphasizes Jesus' concern for all people.
  • Only Gospel that includes Jesus' parables about
    the lost sheep, lost coin, and lost son.

  • Major theme is, The Word of God- the Son of God,
    the most complete expression of God's word.
  • Contains much poetic language and imagery.
  • - meant to give the reader a deeper insight
    into the meaning of Jeus' words and deeds along
    with the mystery of the Incarnation.
