  • Means are sensitive to outliersuse the median
  • (outliers are extreme values)
  • If the number of data points is odd, the median
    is the number in the middle.
  • If the number of data points is even, the median
    is the average of the numbers nearest the middle
  • When your data set is all categories, use the
    mode
  • (mode is value occurring most often)

  • Open SPSS data file
  • Click on ANALYZE
  • Click on DESCRIPTIVE
  • Click on FREQUENCIES
  • Select variables of interest (ALL)
  • Click STATISTICS
  • Select preferred measures of central tendency and
    spread
  • Click CONTINUE
  • Click OK
