Graduate Schools

• Usually give all Ph.D. candidates a full tuition
  waiver and a 9 month stipend
• Stipends start around 20k per year (or 9 months)
• A 4 year minimum is expected 4-6 years until
  graduation
• Take GRE general in the fall of senior year
• Apply by February
• Visit campuses in March
• Decision by April

Graduate School first year(my experience it
depends on the school)

• Preliminary exams when you arrive
• All 5 subjects! organic, physical, inorganic,
  analytical, biochemistry
• You will TA for the first semester maybe 2 years
• You will interview advisors during the fall pick
  an advisor by December, and be in a research
  group by the spring of your first year.
• Classes last for about 2 years full-time
  research after that
