• Prophets (probably)
• Is your theological worldview open to whatever
  you learn from the . . .

  authoritative)

  (helpful and adaptable)

• Authoritative all we will study must conform to
  Scripture
• Usually prescriptive, sometimes descriptive
• Are you willing to accept whatever you find from
  the Word even Acts?

• WORKS of God (v2)
• Studied by all who delight in them!
• Case studies of where God has been at work
  through history and today
• Descriptive, not prescriptive
• We must learn from them and not forget them
• Dont mimic the SCs
• It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But
  the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
  Prov 252

• What was the problem?
• Godly disciples in old covenant could not accept
  radical methods of new covenant
• Holy Spirit unpredictable like a wind (Jn 38)
• Yet Spirits work can be preserved ways / methods
  that are flexible consistent with His work
• Corollary inflexible, slavish forms will not
  adapt to His work

• Wineskins flexible kingdom methods God is using
  blessing
• We must have methods and structure to preserve
  His work
• E.g. Wesleys v Whitefield
• These methods help us cooperate with God
• E.g. Sails on a ship
• Not a formula for success!!!

We learn by doing / obeying!

• Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His
  disciples, saying The scribes and the Pharisees
  have seated themselves in the chair of Moses
  therefore all that they tell you, do and observe,
  but do not do according to their deeds for they
  say things and do not do them. They tie up heavy
  burdens and lay them on mens shoulders, but they
  themselves are unwilling to move them with so
  much as a finger. Matthew 231-4
