Title: Immobile Ocular Perfusion Pump

1
Immobile Ocular Perfusion Pump
  • Kelly Clause, Senthil Premraj, Brad Lomago
  • Puwat Charukamnoetkanok

2
Background
  • Ocular perfusion pumps have been implemented
outside of the ICU and surgical settings in which
self-lubrication or manual lubrication is not
    available or convenient.
  • Our pump is immobile and is to be used in the ICU
or surgical setting to decrease the time nursing
personnel would spend lubricating the eyes of
patients who cannot perform this function on
    their own.

3
Personal Responsibilities
  • Components
  • Fluid pump/ reservoir
  • Delivery Mechanism
  • Spray Mechanism

4
Spray mechanism
  • Based on experiments done in Dr. Kamenevas lab
  • There is a minimum of 8 ml/min flow rate needed
    to have the mechanism spray
  • This equates to a 60 mmHg pressure.

5
Delivery mechanism
  • Using Hagen Poiseuille determined the inner
diameter of the sprayer was 0.06 inches
  • The diameter needed of the delivery mechanism,
silicone tubing, is being calculated based on the
height needed to maintain the 60 mmHg pressure
    and the varying widths possible.

6
Fluid pump
  • Because the 8 ml/min flow rate is much higher
than the amount of fluid we are going to be
spraying, and is too small for any researched
fluid pumps on the market for based on the 0.06
    in. diameter
  • Based on experimentation with the spray
mechanism, and silicone tubing with an inner
diameter of 3/8 in, done in Dr. Shroffs lab, we
concluded that gravity was enough to maintain the
pressure needed and that we Do not need a fluid
    pump

7
Personal Accomplishments
  • Components
  • Fluid pump/ reservoir do not need, reservoir
will be IV bag able to hold at least 50 mL
  • Delivery Mechanism still experimenting on the
relationship of size to height to maintain the 60
    mmHg needed
  • Spray Mechanism determined the characteristics
of it further experimentation on the size of the
droplets and area of spray when the nosepiece is
    designed
