THE SOUTHERN AND NORTHERN ENGLISH SETTLEMENTS?
NORTH
SOUTH
PILGRIMS AND NEW ENGLAND SETTLEMENTS
JAMESTOWN AND VA SETTLEMENTS
15Northern Southern colonists shared a common
language and allegiance to England, but they had
different patterns of settlement, different
economies, and different political systems.
NORTH
SOUTH
ECONOMIC MOTIVE (TOBACCO) MOSTLY SINGLE MEN RULED
BY COMPANY
RELIGIOUS MOTIVES MOSTLY FAMILIES RULED BY
RELIGIOUS IDEAS
LANGUAGE ALLEGIANCE TO ENGLAND
PILGRIMS AND NEW ENGLAND SETTLEMENTS
JAMESTOWN AND VA SETTLEMENTS
The promise of wealth (tobacco) brought settlers
