20- What did St. Francis initially do when he heard
from the crucifix he was praying in front of
Francis, repair my church which has fallen into
disrepair as you can see. - A. He was very afraid and hid in his dormitory
for 40 days. - B. He approached Pope Pius V for permission to
establish the Order of Franciscan Friars - C. He shaved his head
- D. He got a toolkit and began to physically
repair the church he was praying inside.
MORAL Were allowed to misinterpret God and make
mistakes!
21- Which of these facts are true of St. Maria of the
Head? - A. She was considered to be very smart
- B. She was martyred by beheading
- C. She was married to another saint
- D. She was the first patron saint of Academics
MORAL Saints can be married! We have an
opportunity to imitate a holy family. We dont
need to be an enclosed, single and holy hermit
22- Which Saint said
- Sorrow can be alleviated by good sleep, a bath
and a glass of wine! - A. Thomas Aquinas A Doctor of the Church
- B. Pope John Paul II Founder of World Youth
Days - C. St. John Vianney Founder of Priests of the
Mission - D. St. Teresa of Avila Patron Saint of Writers
MORAL Were allowed to love God and have a sense
of humour!
23- Whats the first step to being recognised as a
Saint? - A. You have to die
- B. You have to die a martyr (someone who
expresses their faith by offering up their life) - C. You have to have two posthumous accredited
miracles that are instantaneous cures,
approved by the Vatican - D. You must be a consecrated religious recognised
by the Holy See
MORAL We all live before we die (!), therefore
everyone automatically has equal opportunity to
be saintly
24To live without faith, without a steady struggle
for truth, that is not living, but existing.
Giorgio Frassati
How old was Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati when
he died? A. 16 B. 24 C. 36 D. 99
MORAL Holiness does not come with age, but from
a choice to live more than exist.
25How did Thomas Aquinas respond when his sister
asked him what it takes to become a saint. A.
"To will it." B. To love God with all your
heart. C. To serve. D. To be transformed by
the Holy Spirit.
MORAL First step to holiness is to pursue and
desire it
26What did St. Monica unceasingly pray for, and
achieve? A. That she could conceive children B.
That her eldest daughter could have her vision
restored C. The safe return of her son at war D.
The conversion of her naughty son to Christianity
MORAL Her son, incidentally, was St. Augustine.
There can be miracles, when you believe (and
pray), when hope is frail.
27What method did St. Francis use do to cope with
lust? A. Unceasing prayer in front of the
Blessed Sacrament B. He went fishing and communed
with the fish C. He sang to the birds inside the
monastery fruit garden D. He built snow figures
in the snow at night.
MORAL St. Francis was very human, and faced
human temptations as well, just like any of us.
Rather than suppressing temptations by willpower,
he redirected his desires to something else he
created snow figures of starving families in
need.
28How were St John of the Cross and St. Teresa of
Avila related? A. They were brother and
sisters B. They were students under St.
Augustine C. They were close friends and
companions D. They were born in the same year.
MORAL Saints need support and friendship too
from their peers. Good company rubs off on us
29- St. Teresa of Avila said
- A. None of us is perfect, we just need God to
perfect ourselves - B. None of us is perfect, always seek to repent
and turn away from sin - C. None of us is perfect, never forget this!
- D. None of us is perfect, just make sure those
sins of yours dont turn into habits
MORAL Its okay to be realistic and down to
earth we are not born holy saints, we are
transformed into them

Actual journal entries from Mother
TeresaCome be my Light The Private Writings
of the Saint of Calcutta Compiled by Brian
Kolodiejchuk, M.C.
32Preparation for prayer and reflection
Put your hand in His Jesus hand, and walk
alone with Him. Walk ahead, because if you look
back you will go back. 1928. Mr Teresas words
18 y.o. as she left home to be a missionary
33 With his dying breath Why does Jesus say I
thirst? What does it mean? Something so hard to
explain in words- I thirst is something much
deeper than just Jesus saying I love you. Until
you know deep inside that Jesus thirsts for you
you cant begin to know who He wants to be for
you. Or who He wants you to be for Him.
Pre-1946. Written for her fellow sisters while
still a Loreto Sister.
SUGGESTED REFLECTION Do you feel that there is a
God that thirsts for you? What does your
response mean for you today?
34I am so afraid Jesus I am so terribly afraid
let me not be deceived I am so afraid. This
fear shows me how much I love myself. I am
afraid of the suffering that will come - through
leading that Indian life - clothing like them,
eating like them, sleeping like them living
with them and never having anything my way. How
much comfort has taken possession of my heart.
1947. Mr Teresas second doubt through continuous
petition to respond to her calling to establish
Sisters of Charity.
SUGGESTED REFLECTION How do the comforts you hold
on to today, prevent you from responding to Gods
call?
35Tell me, Father, why is there so much pain and
darkness in my soul? Sometimes I find myself
saying I cant bear it any longer with the same
breath I say I am sorry, do with me what you
wish.
Post-1950. Early days after establishing Sister
of Charity. Mother Teresa often found herself
filled with desolation, as if the presence of God
was missing.
SUGGESTED REFLECTION What does
surrenderloneliness darkness,mean for you in
a relationship with God?
36My going to U.S. was the hardest act of
obedience I had ever had to give to God. Imagine
me, this poor little Missionary, without anything
natural to attract, in U.S. in front of those
thousands of great people. I would die of fear
shyness. What an experience - Thank God it
is over- and that every bit was only for Him
Mr Teresas first trip for public speaking, 1985
SUGGESTED REFLECTION What does it mean for you
today, to follow Gods calling despite feeling
totally unqualified and inadequate?
37Be the one be the one who will satiate the
Thirst. Instead of saying I thirst say be
the one do whatever you believe God is asking
you to do to be the one to satiate Him.
Btw Satiate means to satisfy fully
38Group discussion
