CONTENDING FOR THE WORD

• The Bible is the Standard of Faith
• whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of
  God whoever serves, as one who serves by the
  strength that God supplies -- in order that in
  everything God may be glorified through Jesus
  Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever
  and ever. Amen. 1 Pet 411
• I have applied all these things to myself and
  Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may
  learn by us not to go beyond what is written,
  that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one

• Respect for the Word
• All Scripture is breathed out by God and
  profitable for teaching, for reproof, for
  correction, and for training in righteousness,
  that the man of God may be complete, equipped for
  every good work. 2 Tim 316-17
• For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of
  man, but men spoke from God as they were carried
  along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 121
• And we also thank God constantly for this, that
  when you received the word of God, which you
  heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of
  men but as what it really is, the word of God,

• for I did not shrink from declaring to you the
  whole counsel of God. Acts 2027
• I warn everyone who hears the words of the
  prophecy of this book if anyone adds to them,
  God will add to him the plagues described in this
  book, and if anyone takes away from the words of
  the book of this prophecy, God will take away his
  share in the tree of life and in the holy city,
  which are described in this book. Rev 2218-19

• Study the Word
• Do your best to present yourself to God as one
  approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed,
  rightly handling the word of truth. 2 Tim 215
• Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test
  the spirits to see whether they are from God, for
  many false prophets have gone out into the
  world. 1 John 41

CONTENDING AGAINST FALSE TEACHERS

• There Are False Teachers in the Church
• But false prophets also arose among the people,
  just as there will be false teachers among you,
  who will secretly bring in destructive heresies,
  even denying the Master who bought them, bringing
  upon themselves swift destruction.  And many will
  follow their sensuality, and because of them the
  way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their
  greed they will exploit you with false words. 2
  Peter 21-3
• For the time is coming when people will not
  endure sound teaching, but having itching ears
  they will accumulate for themselves teachers to
  suit their own passions, and will turn away from
  listening to the truth and wander off into
  myths 2 Tim 43-5

• I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for
  those who cause divisions and create obstacles
  contrary to the doctrine that you have been
  taught avoid them. Rom 1617

• Do Not Condoned Their Teaching
• Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test
  the spirits to see whether they are from God, for
  many false prophets have gone out into the
  world. 1 John 41
• Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in
  the teaching of Christ, does not have God.
  Whoever abides in the teaching has both the
  Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and
  does not bring this teaching, do not receive him
  into your house or give him any greeting,  for
  whoever greets him takes part in his wicked
  works. 2 John 9-11
