Jacob God chose Jacob over Esau to father the twelve tribes of Israel (new name of Jacob). The twelve tribes became the chosen God in the Old Testament. God continued to love Jacob in spite of his selfishness. During the first part of his life, Jacob went ahead of God rather than wait for His instructions. He completely acted on his own and such an attitude brought him so much suffering and trouble. Later on, he put his entire trust in God. When Jacob learned to trust God, God blessed him and made him the father of the twelve tribes of Israel. It was in his fourth son, Judah, that Gods promises to Abraham were fulfilled.(Jesus, the promised Redeemer, came from the tribe of Judah)
