• Puns fall under the figurative language category.
• So what is figurative language?
• It is language that you have to figure out
• As you can see, there are a lot of types of
  figurative language. Today, we only discuss the
  pun.

WHAT IS A PUN?

• A pun is a play on words.
• These words will have two possible meanings.
• Puns are usually funny.
• You find them everywhere. (movies, poems, plays,
  etc.) FYI Shakespeare is known for his puns
• In order for one to understand puns, one must
  have a decent knowledge of vocabulary and
  culture.

• Purpose

• Puns are generally a source of humor, but they
  can also be cruel or unkind.
• Simply put, puns are fun to watch and hear. It is
  entertaining to see and hear such verbal sparring
