    among those who had been educated in the West.
  2. As Indian students learned about democracy and
    natural rights, they desired self-rule.

  1. In 1857, gossip spread among the sepoys, or
    Indian soldiers, that the cartridges of their new
    rifles were sealed with beef and pork fat.
  2. Both Hindus, who consider the cow sacred, and
    Muslims, who dont eat pork, were outraged.
