Introduction - Infrastructure Engineering
Corporation (IEC) is an engineering and
construction management consulting firm
primarily serving public agency clients. IEC
provides a full range of civil engineering
including facility design, water and wastewater
master planning, as-needed municipal services,
and hydraulic modeling. - The California
Department of Transportation (CalTrans) is
planning to improve the interstate highway 215
along the County of San Bernardino. These
improvements will require the current water
pipes that supply the city inhabitants to be
relocated and redesigned. - The City of San
Bernardino hired IEC in order to plan the water
main relocation. CalTrans and IEC are working in
cooperation in order to provide the best and the
fastest service to the community of San
Bernardino.

Results - A final map of the area of the project
indicating the location of the existing
underground utility lines. - The accuracy of
this plan prevents an increase in cost and time
during the construction stage of the project. -
Quality utility plans are critical in order to
avoid accidents. Digging during construction is
potentially dangerous Hitting an underground
fuel or gas line may lead to a fatal accident.
Other utility lines, like water pipes, cables,
etc. are vital for the community and damaging
them is absolutely unacceptable. Conclusion -
Because the final result depends on the
information obtained from other people, the
effective use of various ways of communication
can accelerate this project. Acknowledgements

Project Prior to performing any design work, the
project engineer needs a plan showing the
existing underground utilities in the area of
the project. In order to complete this map, the
following tasks were performed 1) Data
Collection - Identify companies that own utility
lines in the area of our project. - Request
utility plans from these companies. - Verify
accurate information about the utility lines
location and their specifications. 2) CADD
Plotting - Plot the utility lines using AutoCAD
based on topographic study and the plans
provided by the utility companies. - A field
inspection in order to check the utilities were
plotted correctly. This includes the street
inspection, checking road marks and measuring
distances from the known objects.
