Title: Reflection%20

1
Reflection Lesson aims
  • To investigate the angle of incidence and angle
of reflection, and find the pattern
  • To find out the rules about where the image is
    formed

2
Reflection Practical 1
  • Set up your ray box and mirror
  • Shine a ray at the mirror
  • Mark the ray on your piece of paper
  • Mark the reflected ray, and the normal
  • Measure the angles
  • Try again with different angles
  • Draw pic in book, state the pattern you find

r
i is angle of incidence r is angle of reflection
3
Reflection Practical 2
  • You need to set up the mirror with an object in
    front of it
  • Now place another object behind the mirror where
    the image appears to be
  • Draw the positions of the mirror, object and
    image in your book
  • Can you find a pattern?

Reflection Notes
  • The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of
reflection (you need to be able to draw this with
    new situations!)
  • The image is as far behind the mirror as the
    object is in front
  • A line joining the object and the image goes
    through the mirror at 900
  • The image in a mirror is upright, laterally
inverted (swapped left to right) and virtual (not
    on a screen)

5
Pinhole Camera
  • Copy this diagram into your books ready for next
    lesson

tinfoil
Greaseproof paper
Tin can
One small hole in the foil
Point the foil end at a Bunsen or candle
6
Pinhole camera ray diagram
  • Copy this diagram ACCURATELY

The image is inverted (upside down), and real (on
a screen)
7
Pinhole camera extension
  • Try two holes in the foil what happens?
  • Try on large hole in the foil what happens?
  • In both cases, write down what you see, and
especially how this is different to the first
experiment with only one small hole
