Tides

• Tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the
  moon, sun and by the rotation of the earth, moon
  and sun.

Tidal Cycle

• Tidal cycle Because the moon spins on its axis
  a bit slower than Earth, we go through a complete
  tidal cycle every 24 hours 50 minutes.

Spring Tides

• Spring Tides when the sun, Earth and the moon
  are lined up. This creates a large tidal
  range.
• high tides are higher than normal
• low tides are lower than normal

Neap Tides

• Neap Tides When the sun, Earth and moon are
  perpendicular to each other. This creates a
  small tidal range.
• high tide is lower than normal
• low tide is higher than normal

• 1. Semidiurnal tides 2 high and 2 low tides of
  equal height. Occur on the east coast of U. S.

• 2. Diurnal tides one high and one low tide.
  Occur in Antarctica, Gulf of Mexico, and
  Caribbean.

• 3. Mixed (semidiurnal) two high and two low
  tides but they are unequal. Occurs on the
  Pacific Coast of the United States and Canada.
