Tunnel Harry facts

• It started on march 24 1944
• There were to other tunnels, tom and dick
• 600 people attempted to escape by using Tunnel
  Harry
• Only 76 people made it out

The great escape

• The reason tunnel harry was called tunnel harry
  is UNKNOWN!

• during the escape there was An air strike and
  sense it was during world war two the camp turned
  of the lights which were connected into the
  tunnel lights and it was pitch black in the
  tunnel.

Aftermath

• Tunnel Harry 300 feet long and 2 feet wide. The
  sand the camp was built on was specially colored.
  The Germans put some dirt over it and if you
  started to dig the sand was almost impossible to
  dig through and the sand was so bright that any
  body could see it.
• This is the camp they were held in (stalag luft
  III)
• After the people escaped they all would try to
  get to the closest city and when they got there
  they would stick out so they had to make street
  clothing.

• 3 safely escaped and lived
• 23 escaped but got back into captivity
• 50 escaped but got murdered
