1
Hold Fast
  • Common Admonition Hold Fast
  • Gk. Katecho (katecw)
  • From kata (down), and echo (hold)
  • to hold firmly, hold fast (Vines)
  • to hold fast, keep secure, keep firm possession
    of (Thayer)

2
Hold Fast
  • That Which is Good (1 Thess. 516-21)

3
1 Thessalonians 516-21
  • Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18
in everything give thanks for this is the will
of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench
the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21
Test all things hold fast what is good.

4
Hold Fast
  • That Which is Good (1 Thess. 516-21)
  • The Form of Sound Words (2 Tim. 113-15)

5
2 Timothy 113-15
  • Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you
have heard from me, in faith and love which are
in Christ Jesus. 14 That good thing which was
committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who
dwells in us. 15 This you know, that all those
in Asia have turned away from me, among whom are
    Phygellus and Hermogenes.

Hold Fast
  • That Which is Good (1 Thess. 516-21)
  • The Form of Sound Words (2 Tim. 113-15)
  • The Faithful Word (Titus 17-9)

7
Titus 17-9
  • For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of
God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not
given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money,
8 but hospitable, a lover of what is good,
    sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled, 9
holding fast the faithful word as he has been
taught, that he may be able, by sound
    doctrine, both to exhort and
    convict those who contradict.

  • That Which is Good (1 Thess. 516-21)
  • The Form of Sound Words (2 Tim. 113-15)
  • The Faithful Word (Titus 17-9)
  • Hope (Heb. 34-6)

9
Hebrews 34-6
  • For every house is built by someone, but He who
built all things is God. 5 And Moses indeed was
faithful in all His house as a servant, for a
testimony of those things which would be spoken
afterward, 6 but Christ as a Son over His own
house, whose house we are if we hold fast the
confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to
    the end.

  • The Faithful Word (Titus 17-9)
  • Hope (Heb. 34-6)
  • Our Profession (Heb. 414-16)

11
Hebrews 414-16
  • Seeing then that we have a great high priest,
that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of
God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we
have not an high priest which cannot be touched
with the feeling of our infirmities but was in
all points tempted like as we are, yet without
sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the
throne of grace, that we may obtain
mercy, and find grace to help in time
    of need. (KJV)

Hold Fast
  • That Which is Good (1 Thess. 516-21)
  • The Form of Sound Words (2 Tim. 113-15)
  • The Faithful Word (Titus 17-9)
  • Hope (Heb. 34-6)
  • Our Profession (Heb. 414-16)
  • The Confession of our Hope (Heb. 1019-23)

13
Hebrews 1019-23
  • Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter
the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new
and living way which He consecrated for us,
through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and
having a High Priest over the house of God, 22
let us draw near with a true heart in full
assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled
from an evil conscience and our bodies washed
with pure water. 23 Let us hold
fast the confession of our hope without
wavering, for He who promised is
    faithful.

14
Conclusion
  • We need to keep firmly in our possession the true
words of the gospel, and the hope we have for
heaven. Thus equipped both with the means and
motivation, we can reach eternity with God.
