• Communication between 2 neurons is chemical
• Synapse- the microscopic space between two
  neurons, over which messages pass.

How it works

• Neurotransmitters are released into the synaptic
  gap after an action potential reaches the tips
  of axon terminals
• When chemical molecules cross over a synapse,
  they attach to special receiving areas on the
  next neuron
• Receptor Sites on the cell membrane are sensitive
  to neurotransmitters. ( Sites are found in large
  numbers on nerve cell bodies and dendrites.)
• But messages dont always trigger an action
  potential in the next neuron.
