Title: INACTIVE DRIED YEAST (Saccharomyces cerevisiae)

1
INACTIVE DRIED YEAST(Saccharomyces cerevisiae)
2
DEFINITION
  • Inactive Dried Yeast, Brewers Yeast and Molasses
Yeast are all the same ingredient, as all of them
are made of 100 of Saccharomyces cerevisiae
    Yeast.
  • Brewers Yeast comes typically from a beer
fermentation. The Inactive Dried Yeast coming
from alcohol fermentation, either from sugar cane
molasses (Brazil) or from corn syrup (USA) can
also be called as Brewers Yeast. In Brazil, the
brewers yeast coming from sugar cane molasses
fermentation is usually called as MOLASSES YEAST.
  • ICC chose the definition of INACTIVE DRIED YEAST
for our brewers yeast coming from molasses
    fermentation.

3
INACTIVE DRIED YEAST
  • Inactive Yeast is known for its prophylactic
action, increasing the animals resistance to
illness and improving performance, this activity
is often referred as Unidentified Growth
    Factors UGF.
  • Due to its high palatability, Inactive Dried
    Yeast stimulates the feed intake.
  • Inactive Yeast is a great protein source, with
good amino acids balance and high levels of
lysine and threonine and it is also the best
source for natural occurring B vitamins.

4
ADVANTAGES OF YEAST USAGE
  • Sows - feeding the sows with Inactive Dried Yeast
increases the number of piglets born alive,
piglets weight at birth and at weaning.
  • Piglets - strengthen the immuno system and
    increase the production factor.

5
INDICATION OF USE
  • Swines
  • Pre initial and Initial 2 to 5 of total feed
  • Growth and Finishing 1 to 3 of total feed
  • Sows 1 to 3 of total feed

INACTIVE DRIED YEAST FROM SUGAR CANE ALCOHOL
DESTILATION IN THE GESTATING AND LACTATING SOWS.
II. EFFECTS ON PIGLETS AND LITTER WEIGHT.EMBRAPA
Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária.
PhD. Gustavo J.M.M. Lima. Rev. Soc. Bras. Zoot.,
v. 17, n. 5, 1988.
  • When gestating and lactating sows are fed with
21 of Inactive Dried Yeast (IDY) the
improvements on litter weight at birth, at 21
days and at 35 days were very important.
  • Best litter weights were reached with 14 and 21
    inclusion rate of IDY.
  • These results showed that the IDY can be used up
to 21 of the diet, as a prophylactic micro
ingredient for gestating and lactating sows.

BREWERS DRIED YEAST AS A SOURCE OF MANNAN
OLIGOSACCHARIDES FOR WEANING PIGS.L.A. White,
M.C. Newman, G.L. Cromwell and M.D. Lindemann.
University of Kentucky, Lexington 40546, 2002.
  • Inactive Dried Yeast (IDY) addition enhanced
Bifitobacterias and Lactobalilli count in the
    feces, while decreased Clostridium Perfringe
    count.
  • 3 of IDY in weaning piglets diet, was able to
provide higher serum immunoglobulin G (IgG)
    levels.

FEASIBILITY OF INACTIVE DRIED YEAST USE FOR
PIGLETS.Universidade Estadual Paulista UNESP,
Graduation Thesis 1997, Fabiano da Costa Pita,
PhD Otto Mack Junqueira.
  • Inclusion of Inactive Dried Yeast (IDY) enhanced
    piglets performance.
  • 5 of IDY provided better feed conversion in
piglets (from 22 to 71 days old).

INACTIVE DRIED YEAST AS A PROTEIN SOURCE FOR
WEANING PIGS (FROM 10 TO 28 KG BODY
WEIGHT).Miyada, U.S. Lavorenti, A. Packer,
I.U., Menten, J.F.M. Rev. Bras. Zoot., v. 26, n.
2, p. 316-326, 1997.
  • 15 of Inactive Dried Yeast inclusion provided
better feed conversion and serum hemoglobin level
    results.

INACTIVE DRIED YEAST AS A PROTEIN SOURCE FOR
WEANING PIGS (FROM 10 TO 28 KG BODY
WEIGHT).Miyada, U.S. Lavorenti, A. Packer,
I.U., Menten, J.F.M. Rev. Bras. Zoot., v. 26, n.
2, p. 316-326, 1997.
  • 20 of Inactive Dried Yeast level, decreased
serum cholesterol and urea concentration in the
    weaned pigs.

12
CONCLUSION
  • Inactive Dried Yeast, either from molasses
fermentation or from brewers fermentation, can
be considered an efficient ingredient for swine,
especially for weaning piglets and for sows, both
for its nutritional characteristics and for its
prophylactic action. In general, Inactive Dried
    Yeast enhances the immunological system.
  • Several trials showed that Inactive Dried Yeast
decreases piglets mortality and increases weaned
    piglets livability.
