Action Verb
  • An action verb is a work that tells what the
subject of a sentences does, did, or will do.
  • The verb is the main word of a predicate. It can
    be action or being.
  • Many times a sentence with an action verb has a
direct object a word that receives the action.
The word is often a noun. The direct object
answers the question whom? or what? after the
verb. You will not find a direct object inside a
    prepositional phrase.

3
Follow these steps in order
  • Underline the complete subject once.
  • Underline the complete predicate twice.
  • Sing the Preposition Song to find the
prepositional phrases and put ( ) around.
  • Find the simple subject (noun) and put SS above
    the word.
  • Find the simple predicate (action verb) and put
    SP above the word.
  • If the sentence has a direct object (usually a
noun, answers who? or what?, and receives the
action) put DO above the word.
