Title: Budgeting and Price Matching

1
Budgeting and Price Matching
  • Getting the most for your money at the grocery
    store.

2
Find the lowest prices
  • Look through paper and online ads for stores in
our area to find the best prices on the products
    you use.
  • Visit internet sites such as www.southernsavers.c
om to find sales prices from additional stores
    and links to printable coupons.

3
Tips for making your shopping list
  • Write down the items you plan to purchase along
with the lowest price found in the ads.
  • Check prices as you shop to see if you need to
    price match.

4
Shopping in the right order
  • Write non-perishable items at the top of your
list and shop for them first. Shop for
    refrigerated/frozen items last.
  • If you have time, go up and down every isle to
check for unadvertised deals and roll-backs.

5
Other ways to save
  • Look for on-line coupons and coupons in the
    Sunday paper.
  • If you have available space for storage, stock up
on items that have super-low prices.
  • Avoid buying meats unless they are on sale.

6
Menu planning
  • If possible, make out a weekly menu and make a
list of all items you need to buy.
  • Plan your menu around sales items and items in
your refrigerator and pantry that need to be
    eaten.

7
The benefits of menu planning
  • Taking the time to plan ahead can prevent endless
    trips to the grocery store.
  • Planned menus can also prevent expensive, and
often unhealthy, dine-in or take out meals.

8
Checking out
  • To make it easier on you and the cashier,
separate your items to be price matched.
  • Having your list with the prices, makes it easier
    to tell the cashier.
  • Be sure to have any coupons readily available as
    well.

9
Other tips for checking out
  • If possible, shop with a family member. He or she
can place purchased items in the buggy as you
    tell the cashier the prices.
  • Price matching does take a little more time at
check-out, but the savings are worthwhile.
