Concept Mapping

• Concepts are learning tools.
• A concept map is a hierarchical diagram used to
  represent a set of concepts.
• Key concepts are connected by links with
  descriptive word, explaining the relationship
  between the concepts.
• Concepts maps are spatial representations of
  ideas and their interrelationships.
• Concepts maps are graphs consisting of nodes
  representing concepts and labeled lines
  representing the relationships among them.
• Semantic networking is the process of
  constructing these concept maps.

Steps to Creating a Concept Map

• Select
• Focus on a theme and then identify related key
  words or phrases.
• Rank
• Rank the concepts (key words) from the most
  abstract and inclusive to the most concrete and
  specific.
• Cluster
• Cluster concepts that function at similar level
  of abstraction and those that interrelate
  closely.
• Arrange
• Arrange concepts in to a diagrammatic
  representation.
• Link and add proposition
• Link concepts with linking lines and label each
  line with a proposition.
