    designed to prepare graduates who are skilled and
    experienced in teaching and guiding students with

  • Course Overview
  • Prepares students for a rewarding career in
    special education which spans the primary and
    secondary years
  • Covers all aspects of the curriculum from Prep
    throughout the primary years and from years 7 to
    10 within secondary settings
  • Students undertake a major sequence in education
    and in curriculum studies.
  • Students will acquire the skills in areas
    including learning and educational policy and
    practice, child and adolescent development,
    multiculturalism and diversity in education,
    global and sustainability education and applied
    learning.
  • Major curriculum studies include English, Maths,
    Science, the Arts, History, Indigenous Studies,
    Social Education, Physical Education and Health.
  • Students complete a special education sequence
    which provides graduates with specialist teaching
    skills and knowledge in the area of inclusive and
    special education. Units include curriculum in
    inclusive and special education, behaviour
    disorders and positive behaviour support and
    effective instruction in special education.
  • 80 days of professional placement in specialist
    and inclusive settings.

Professional Placements
  • Professional Placements provide students with the
    opportunity to put their knowledge into practice
    in real life settings
  • Placements range from 1 day per week to block
    placements of 5 days per week for 5 weeks
  • Our placements are sourced from a variety of
    sectors
  • Special placement opportunities include rural
    communities (Hamilton and Ballarat), and
    international Cook Islands and South Africa.

The Facultys Partnerships and Professional
Placements Office facilitate over 5,000
placements each year.
Monash Education student Narelle works out a
