• Researched how ATP synthesis works in the
  mitochondria and chloroplasts
• Identify the enzymes behind ATP synthesis
• Explained, developed and refined the expanding
  concepts of enzymology
• Used electron microscopy to discover ubiquinone

Experiment Cont.

• Purified ATPase and coenzyme I
• They put a solution of ATPase into a test tube
  and added oligomycin which effected the ATPase
• Olygomycin was known as the mean inhibitor for
  oxidation phosphorylation

Results and what they mean

• Proved ATPase was a part of oxidation
  phosphorylation
• Also discovered ATPase is in the mitochondrial
  membrain
• Ubiquinone (CoQ) was an indispensable component
  of mitochondria and the respiratory chain.
• Ubiquinone was a electron carrier
