3When Mission was Built (Founded)
- My mission was built on the sea and was built on
March 31,1782.

- My mission was located near the Sizeable Indian
Village of Mitsquanagann with about 500 in
habitants.

- Father Junipero Serra the father of the mission
,which were the first settlement of civilized man
in California, was born on the island of Majorca,
part of the kingdom of Spain,on the 24th of
November,1713.

- In 1816 ( the peak year) the mission had over
41,000 animals including 23,400 cattle, 12,144
sheep and 4493 horses (one of the largest stables
of horses in the mission chain.

San Buenaventura was located in the land of the
chumash people. After the establishment of the
mission the neophytes were known as Ventureno.

- The peak years for this mission were 1802-1821.
The highest record population was 1,328 in 1816.

- Although the was evacuated for a month of in 1818
because of the threat Hypolite Bouchard, the
mission was nonetheless spared.

Arcdiocese of Los Angeles.
